Featured on the @UNIVERSETODAY Instagram page! A view of the still-sunlit Internation Space Station crossing in front of a perfect half moon just after dusk on 1/24/2018. Suggested print sizes: 4x5", 8x10", 16x20", 24x30"
Two of our Local Group neighbors—the enormous Andromeda Galaxy (and her satellites!) on the right, and the dimmer, more diminutive Triangulum Galaxy on the left—set against Cabezon Peak, in northern NM. The symmetry of this particular composition really appealed to me, as if the galaxies were swinging on a giant seesaw, with Andromeda apparently edging out Triangulum. I also really liked the idea of watching two entire galaxies, each harboring countless solar systems potentially teeming with other civilizations, setting against this austere natural formation, itself gently illuminated by faint lights emanating from a small pocket of our own civilization. Suggested print sizes: 4x6", 8x12", 12x18", 16x24", 20x30", 24x36"
Featured on the @MILKYWAYCHASERS Instagram page! A diverse scene comprised of ancient lava flows, a curvaceous sandstone bluff, the Milky Way, sunset, and a shooting star is depicted in this time blended image, captured in the El Malpais National Monument in northern New Mexico. Suggested print sizes: 4x6", 8x12", 12x18", 16x24", 20x30", 24x36"
A time-blended, vertical panorama of a prolific Geminids meteor light display in the skies over the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. Meanwhile, a flock of cranes awakens to the early morning light, gleefully oblivious to the chaotic astronomical display that concluded just an hour earlier. The cranes are flanked by the constellation Orion and the Pleiades, while the winter Milky Way is draped overhead.
An image of the International Space Station crossing in front of the sun 300 miles above Edgewood, NM, on 8/5/17. Intervening clouds provide some nice texture to the otherwise quite uniform luminosity of the sun, spare one lone sunspot just above the ISS trajectory. Suggested print sizes: all square print sizes, 4x5", 8x10", 16x20", 20x24", 24x30"
The Andromeda Galaxy and its satellite galaxies rise in the background over Sandia Crest near Albuquerque, NM. This long exposure image (comprised of nearly an hour of data) demonstrates that it's indeed possible to capture the faint glow of distant deep-sky objects, even if quite heavily light polluted areas. Suggested print sizes: 4x6", 8x12", 12x18", 16x24", 20x30", 24x36"
Featured on the @MILKYWAYCHASERS, @ROYCEBAIRPHOTO, and @UNIVERSETODAY Instagram pages! One of the top-9 images of 2018 on the @MILKYWAYCHASERS feed! A two-image blend captured on the Lava Falls trail at the El Malpais National Monument in NM. Right image is an HDR composite captured at sunset, and the left image depicting the Milky Way over the lava flows was taken two hours later from the same location without moving the camera. Suggested print sizes: 4x6", 8x12", 12x18", 16x24", 20x30", 24x36"
FINALIST, YOUR BEST SHOT OF 2018! (AdoramaPix.com) Featured on the @ROYCEBAIRPHOTO Instagram page! We've all seen the sun rise and set. And, we've all seen the moon rise and set. But, have you ever seen an entire galaxy set? Captured from above 10,000 feet elevation in southern Colorado, this image depicts our nearest galactic neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy (and its satellite galaxies), setting in the early morning hours behind Engineer Mountain. Print suggestions: any print size in the 2:1 aspect ratio. The Andromeda Galaxy sets over an austere, white tree trunk serving as a bald eagle nesting ground at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. A few Geminid meteors streak across the sky while the ancient light from our neighboring galaxy reflects off the calm waters. Suggested print sizes: 4x6", 8x12", 12x18", 16x24", 20x30", 24x36"
Featured on the @ROYCEBAIRPHOTO Instagram page! A day-to-night, two-image blend taken from atop Mt. Taylor (New Mexico) at La Mosca Lookout, located at over 11,000 feet elevation. The sunset image is comprised of a 6-panel, 42-exposure HDR panoramic mosaic captured at 6:45pm local time, and the night image is comprised of a 6-panel, 24-exposure stacked panoramic mosaic captured at 8:30pm. Both sets of images were captured from the same camera location. Print suggestions: any print size in the 2:1 aspect ratio.
